M51 in 16 bit

M51 in 16 bit
In this image of M51 you can see the difference that 16 bit processing makes. Compare this image to the other M51 image in my gallery and you'll see what I mean. The other M51 (my first DSI photo) was saved as a BMP file in 8 bit mode. This photos consists of 100 x 1 minute exposures and 50 x 30 second exposures for a total of 2 hours & 5 minutes of data. All were taken using my Meade 12" LX200GPS/SMT/UHTC and F/3.3 reducer, saved as FITS files & processed using AS-IP & Photoshop CS.

Simply outstanding Matt!

What values of gain and exposure did you roughly use in AS envisage?

I believe the gain and offset were set to 100 and 55. I let the software set these for me.

Thanks again for all the comments guys!!

Where is the color? This is a very colorful objet but nitne is evident here. Have you tried processing the color layers separately and then recombining?

Keep it up.

well, I did give it a try, but my processing skills leave a bit to be desired where color is concerned. In a former life I was a six color process pressman that ran very large printing presses, so I know CYMK process very well, just having a hard time applying the proper percentages and getting it to come out right, but I working on it.....
