    autostar & Starrynight

i found out something interesting tonight while i was sitting in the house testing my mount and laptop because its raining again , i had reset the hand controller on my autostar and then opened up the starrynight pro6 program, and just for fun i slewed to Jupiter using the program, i know i cant see through my roof, but my scope went to the direction of Jupiter, now you see i didnt do any kind of alignment, just pointed the mount north, so it seems to me, of course i wont know for sure until i go outside, but it seems as if the program (starrynight) talked to the autostar and aligned it for me, not sure if this is right, but anyone that has this program might know more about this

    Re: autostar & Starrynight

If the scope was parked properly, it knew where it was located.  The software knows the date and time ... so perhaps things were just at the right place & time.

If I use my 102mm & the 80mm on top instead of the 254mm and the 80mm on my old LXD55 mount, I don't bother doing an alignment. I'm always in the same location and the scope is always in the home position at start up, so it points ok. It is said that you can do this and just sync a few objects then your off and running for the night. I wouldn't suggest doing it all the time though.Smile [:)]
