    Network server won't work

I updated my autostar suite. Now the net work server will not work. I get the following error runtime error 10048 address in use. I am able to conect via the com port with no porblem. I would rather connect via the net work so I can guide use remote hand box at same time. It worked fine before I updated. any ideas?

    Thanks,

I had the same problem after updating. So i tried the port 5400 instead of 5401 and now it works. Don't forget to configure your router/firewall (if you have) for the port range 5400 to 5410.

    Re: Network server won't work

I am having the same problem..I think. I have never used the server because I just purchased a 497 handset for my ETX and this is my first go at remote control of the scope. I went and installed all the AS/Envisage upgrades figuring what the heck.

When I try use any port from 5400-5410 or so while setting up the server, the instant I check 'listen', I get an error message telling me this port is already in use. In frustration, I try 5488. It successfully listens. OK then.

Now I go start the scope via network protocol. I enter that port and leave the default 127.0.0.1...and it connects to the scope. Great. Now I figure I'm in bidness!

So I start Envisage, enter 127.0.0.1 as shown, hit connect..and get a message that the target machine is actively refusing my connection. No matter what combo of ports or IP's I try, if I can make it through the AS portion of the setup (server start and connection), I always get this message. Driving me nuts now. I spent a good couple hours trying different combos and pulling my hair out. I don't have much to start with, so this is not  good!

I don't know how to change a firewall. What do I do? Another possible factor..I am on a wireless network at home with the laptop. I am not attempting to run the scope via the wireless, the wifi is merely running in the background so can listen to streamed tunes as I scope.

Are you Using a usb to serial converter, or connecting to a serial port? I had the same proble with the USB to serial converter on my laptop. I started using a powered USB hub and now it works fine.

    Re: Network server won't work

I'm running USB to Serial. It seems odd it would be a problem, since i can connect AS planetarium to telescope by IP or serial, it's only envisage which gags. I'll think about your comment however, since i'm not up and running it has to be something. I'll ask around and see if I can borrow a powered hub and try it out.

For a sanity check, I entered the Serial port number in envisage, and it connected right up. Something about the connection to the network server app is funky, or else there is a fixed port in envisage that I cannot change and it wants a different one.
