    "5 images failed xfer.."

Does anyone know how to fix error message from Envisage:

"Image xfer failed . 5 images failed xfer, disconnect all other USB 1.1 devices or switch to USB 2".

This is on a brand new HP laptop. Here's the sequence:

Plug in DSI..launch Envisage...images appear at the default 1 second exposure. From here on in any attempt to interact with the program, say increase exposure time, results in the error message.

I've tried: uninstall and re-install Envisage (v7 although the previous version also gives the same problem), powered USB 2.0 hub, powered Express-USB 2.0 card, restored computer to factory settings and installed Envisage only, installed all updates from HP website, replaced cables, disabled the touch-pad mouse and used an external mouse,

Device Manager claims the USB port I'm using is high speed (=2.0). I also checked the USB ports with USB.org's program "USBCV", which incidentally showed my DSI is not fully USB 2.0 compliant but it does work on three other computers I've tried.

Also had a long e-mail conversation with HP technical support who have given up and told me to contact Meade Technical support.  For those of us who live outside the USA that's easier said than done.  Meade's official support in the UK consists of a dealership which sells all sorts of equipment, not much hope of any insight into software issues there.

If I can't fix this then there's a HP laptop for sale, or I might keep it as fishing weight...

    Hi, Steve

IF you are certain that the computer and cable are both full USB 2.0 spec, then you probably have some device (optical mouse, for example) that is kicking you down to USB 1.1 speed.

The other thing is if your computer has more than one USB port, it is possible that the one you are using is not USB 2.0

How long & what type is your cable?

this should help you dope out the problem:

What Chuck says it 100 percent on target.  Also make sure you have no other program (I.E. PHD Guiding?) that is loaded and perhaps using the camera at the same time.

If two programs vie for the camera driver at the same time, neither will work correctly.

Um...I find that this occurs to me when I'm using Envisage to image and PHD to guide. I have my DSI Colour to guide and DSI Pro 2 to image and if you don't switch off "live" for the guide camera in Envisage you will recieve this error message every minute or so continuosly.
Give that a go and let us know how you get on.Big Smile [:D]

    Re: "5 images failed xfer.."

Thanks to all for your replies. I've been on a self-imposed e-mail and computer-free break so haven't visited here for a while.  Anyway, the USB cable is 3 feet or so long. I've tried two or three with no change.  Also, I'm not guiding; I have one DSI connected to the computer for imaging.  No other programs are running, except AVG anti-virus, and turning that off does not make any difference to the problem.

The image xfer failure does not occur on my HP Vista desktop computer, nor on my old Sony XP laptop, only on the new HP DV9646 Vista laptop, so I'm sure the DSI and cable are OK and that something is sub-optimal with the HP laptop.

    I have discovered
something bizarre though.  I can disable the laptop's USB 2.0 controller (aka Enhanced USB Host controller) using Device Manager so that the only USB that remains available is 1.1.  With this set up I get no errors and it all works fine.  OK the image download from the DSI is slower, but still perfectly usable.

This goes against my belief that the DSI somehow "needs" USB 2.0 and it's not really a cure, more a band-aid. But it does work, and confirms my belief that my HP laptop's USB 2.0 system is flaky when in combination with the DSI and Envisage.  Interestingly, running K3CCD Tools with the DSI works fine with USB2.0 so these xfer errors could be an Envisage "feature".....

So, if your'e looking for a new computer to run a DSI and Envisage then "try before you buy" would be my advice.
