    USB 2.0

Don't know if this is the right forum, i'll give it a shot. Just got my DSI C yesterday, and am trying to get it going. It installed fine on vista, and i was able to get some light through it, so i know it works. Then last night i went outside, plugged it in, and my software wouldnt pick it up (Envisage, Nebulosity, etc.). Under device manager it showed up as Meade DSI, so the computer sees it.

Is it possible i was plugged into a different USB slot than when i installed it? I assumed they were all the same. How can i tell which one is a USB 2.0? I'm on a Dell XPSM1530, it has 3 USB ports on it. It was pretty irritating actually, haha.

Any help would be great folks.

    Thanks!

    Re: USB 2.0

I use an HP laptop that is powerful and it has three USB ports i found out that it wont function properly in the ports i have on the right side of the computer, but works like advertised in the single USB port on the left, i hope that helps

    Re: USB 2.0

    Hi Kevin,

Were the USB cables the same in both cases? I've seen my laptop recognise both my DSIs, but they won't operate if I've forgotton to power up the USB hub on my scope (distance between computer and scope is 5m on a repeater cable + 0.5m to hub). The DSI's draw alot of power from the USB line, so best to use a powered hub on the scope to make sure the power supply is going to be adequate.

I have XP on my laptop, and it will run the DSIs from any of the ports, but it will go through the "found new hardware routine" for every combination you make; best to keep things connected the same way each time.

    Hope this helps,

    Jon

    Re: USB 2.0

    Kevin,

If your computer is a notebook, probably USB ports don't have enough power for the DSI, so they can't supply the correct voltage and, allthough the computer will recognize it as a DSI, it won't take images, just noise.
Try using an external powered USB 2.0 hub, that worked for me.
